Being More Than a Hearer of the Word

Being More Than a Hearer of the Word

God, I just want to make sure that when all is said and done. People can look back on all that I have done and can say, “He looked like his Father in heaven.” I want to finish the race well. Doing that requires that I both hear your Word and do what it says. Whether it is in the Bible or I hear it directly from you in my prayers, I want to be one who both hears and acts on what is understood.

Luke 8:18 NLT

“So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

I want to trust with all my heart. I want to choose to live out your Word and what I understand of it daily. I trust that If I make an incorrect decision. If I stray from where I am headed, You will straighten me out.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. [6] Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Lord, my prayer today is that you would help me be a doer of your word. I pray not to be a hearer only. That I will not walk away from this time with you and forget all that you are pouring into me. Help me to grow into the man you want me to be.

James 1:22-25 NLT

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
