This morning as I was spending some time with the Lord, when He brought a question to mind that challenged me. “How do I embody Your Truth?”
I was reading from a book of devotions. One of those where they have an article for each day of the year. The name of this one is “Hearing God’s Voice” by Chris Tiegreen. The topic of hearing God’s voice is one that I could spend days on. But today’s article had the following statement:
[God’s] desire is for you to embody His truth and then just be who you are.
Along with the above quote, the article also featured Ezekiel 3:10 which says:
He continued, “Son of man, listen carefully. Take to heart everything I tell you.
What does that even mean? Embody His truth?
Like a good researcher, my first step was to understand the word “Embody” because, who today, even uses that word. The word “embody” means “to give concrete or perceptible form to an idea, quality, or spirit, to represent it exactly.” So, right off the bat we can assume that to embody God’s truth is to represent it exactly or give it a perceptible form.
Isn’t it interesting that to “embody his Truth” sounds a lot like what the book of Genesis says: “So God created human . beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female. (Genesis 1:27)”
God created us, both male and female, in His likeness… to represent Him. We were created to embody God to the world around us. The challenge to embody His truth is really a challenge to truly live out the “God Likeness” that we are all wired with from the beginning of life.
Like the quote stated earlier: “God’s desire (from your creation forward) is for you to embody His Truth (likeness) and just be who you are. (Who you were created and purposed to be from the beginning)”
How do we do embody His Truth?
I think it’s important to state right up front that we cannot embody God’s truth on our own. Even though we are created in His likeness, we need help, as sinners, determining what truth actually is and how to live that out in our lives. Thank goodness those who call Jesus their Savior and Lord have the Holy Spirit living within them (1 Corinthians 6:19).
John 14:17 – He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth…
One of the key functions of the Holy Spirit is to guide the follower of Jesus into all truth. As our guide, we can lean on the Holy Spirit for everything we need to understand truth and how it applies to our lives today.
For us to truly embody His truth we need to be willing to listen and obey the Holy Spirit and apply to our lives all that he guides us into. Just like it said in Ezekiel 3:10, “…listen carefully. Take to heart everything I tell you.”
